exercise your right to an opinion

So a bill is going through our legislature right now called AB 755. It makes spanking your under 3 year old with "an implement" a criminal offense. This is a good time to express your opinion to your assembly woman. Yours is Noreen Evans. Hint hint

If you want more information or a prewritten paragraph to email her (albeit biased) I can give it to ya). Also, I've been told they listen more to phone calls that emails.

Ironically, the woman who introduced this bill doesn't have children. Maybe she should spend some time with some.

Thanks Robin

Sadly the California assembly is packed with people dying to pass this.

I'll definitely send an email though. We always NEED to voice what's right.

Here's my email,

Assembly Member Evans;

I'm writing to let you know that I appose the passing of the bill AB 755. It seems to me that while the drafter of this document might have had good intentions for the well being of children, if the bill is made into law, it would overstep the bounds of the state. It would interfere with the freedom of parents rearing their children how they consider appropriate.

The bill allows a loose definition of mental suffering to pass as a grounds for child abuse. When a child is disciplined they undergo 'mental suffering' as anyone does who receives correction for their actions. This doesn't mean that the parent is in anyway abusing this child. Correction is an essential part of parenthood. Limit discipline and you begin the decline of our society.

I believe we need tougher laws for child molesters and abusers, not laws that usurp the rights of parents doing their best to raise their children.

As a concerned parent I urge you to vote no on bill AB 755

Here's mine, most of which I stole from the Kludge.

Besides being a government intrusion into the home, the law resulting from this bill would be a nightmare to enforce, and could only lead to more beaurocracy and red tape for our already overtaxed law enforcement and social service agencies. By no means would I place administrative expediency above the safety of children, but this bill is simply impractical, besides its over stepping of the bounds of private citizens.

Thank you for your time and please vote NO on AB 755.
