Under New Management

For those of you who may have missed it we are in the process of a regime change. No, not a coup as some my be thinking, but some of us have almost completed our term so it was time to bring in some fresh faces to handle the challenges of leading our group. We have the list ready to post so here it is:

Overall Leader - Dan
Snack List - Emberli
Calendar - Michelle
Event Planner - Jen
Role Taker - Tricia
Ministry Plans - Bruce/

So, there you have it. I will continue to put together powerpoint announcements as I have information to put on them. We are still looking for some one who will work with Bruce in planning outreach ministry opportunities so if interested comment here or see one of us at church.

Christmas Party

Everyone had such a good time at the Christmas Party. We had it at the church in Fellowship Hall so there was lots of room to spread out and have the kids there. We got great pictures of each family that came. Thanks for humoring me guys. I know pics aren't on the "funnest thing to do today" list, but they are really cute. After helping the kids with very difficult but very cute ornaments of the nativity and a few games, we gave them little goodie bags. The punch balloons were a hit with everyone as you can see. The White Elephant Gift exchange was lots of fun. Some new gifts were brought as well as some returning from previous years. Patricia ended up with the warrior sweater. We are all eager to see where it will be displayed. Thanks for coming and making it a special afternoon.

Emma Tonks Has Arrived

It's a Girl!

Emma Grace Tonks was born this morning at 4:30am. I have tried several times to reach my wife and others who have the baby's vital stats. I know that is of huge importance to some of you, and I'm sorry for my shortcomings... I was very tired this morning when I heard but I believe she was 7lbs and change. All fingers and toes accounted for.

Congrats to Mike and Leslie and their newest addition. Anyone with further information please save me from my embarrassment and update this post.

Welcome the Newest Kuhner

We just wanted to notify the group that yesterday, October 16th, Chris and Sarah Kuhner welcomed their daughter Rebekah Jeanette Kuhner into the world. We rejoice with the Kuhner's! Of course, since I am a guy I don't know the crucial details that you ladies want to know (time, weight, length, eye color, etc.) I will let a lady fill in those details, but be praying for the Kuhner's with this new addition to their to their home.

Prayer Request

Please pray for my grandmother. She is my Mom's mom. Many of you know her as Bema or the taller of my two grandmothers. Last night, she suffered a stroke and will be in the hospital for a few days as they evaluate what is happening and what needs to be done. This was not your normal stroke. It was caused by an irregular heartbeat that caused the blood to clot and some of that clot broke off and went into her brain.

This is why her motor skills are fine, but her speech is not making sense. She mumbles a lot and she does not use complete thoughts. She is 94 and God has blessed her with a long life so please pray that his will would be done. Pray for my Mom and she has some important decisions to make depending on how my grandma responds. Bema could need 24 hour care or be put in a home. Pray that God will give wisdom and help us to be a light to others.

If you could also pray that God will use this to save my brother that would be great. I know God has already used it in my life to make me rethink my priorities. It is very nice to know that God is sovereign and that we as his followers can pray for and comfort one another. Thanks guys.

Snack duty ; )

Hey everyone,
I forgot to bring the snack sign up sheet to fellowship today, so just a reminder to glance over to the right side over there if you haven't brought it in a while and check if there's a Sunday that works for you. If so let me know and we'll add you to the list. Especially if we can try to fill in the more recent ones. Thanks!

Prayer Request

For those of you who have been around for a while you will know Julie Mason. She was married a few years ago to a man by the name of Ben Provost. They moved to Kentucky a couple of years ago and then last year Ben decided to enlist in the army. He has been stationed in Germany and Julie was able to go to him just a few months ago. Julie has just posted on her blog that Ben has been deployed to the Middle East. He left last night for his deployment. Please pray for Julie as she and her little boy Daniel are now on their own for a while and pray the Ben will be safe as he does his middle eastern duty.

Sarah's Great Grandma

Just to let you all know, Sarah's Great Grandmother Della Rowlands went home to be with her Savior yesterday afternoon. Sarah had gotten to spend the previous night with her helping give her medications to ease her pain but was not there when she passed. The Hospice nurses that were there said it was the most peaceful passings they had ever witnessed. Della was 95 years old and will be missed by her entire family. She was truly a Proverbs 31 woman. Please pray for the Rowlands/Reynolds families as they grieve the loss of a mighty woman of God.

Catch This!

This should probably be in the comments for the last post, but I feel it's important enough to warrant it's own space.

Peter and Patricia are liars. Their actual catch phrase, no doubt, should be "No doubt." Maybe Josh too to a lesser extent, but since he already has 17 catch phrases we'll let him off the hook. Am I not right about this people? Sit back and listen and you'll see that I am.

Bobby Crocker Cook-Off!

The grills weren't the only thing heating up at the P.I.C. 2nd Annual Bobby Crocker Cook-Off! The competition was heating up too! It was a great time at Dan and Michelle's as the guys cooked some great appetizers, main dishes and desserts! Appetizers included fried mushrooms with a variety of sauces (the soy/ginger sauce was awesome) by Peter and grilled sausage served on baguette's with a great sauce grilled by Leo. The main dish stood alone with Jeremy serving his Double Baked Sassy Ribs. Desserts were a tight competition. Dan started us off with a wonderful family recipe of Chocolate Mousse. This was followed by Chris' Brooklyn Blackout Cake. Both were delectable chocolate desserts. The final two desserts took a different flare. Matt prepared grilled pineapple topped with Nutella and a side of ice cream. Josh took to the grill with his Grilled Peaches - topped with blackberry sauce, ice cream and chocolate sauce. The whole night made for tough decisions for the ladies who were enjoying the food preparation being done by the men. Top honors for appetizers went to Leo, main dish to Jeremy and dessert to Dan. The winners were presented with camo decorated oven mitts. It was a super fun night filled with great food by everyone and awesome fellowship! Below are pictures from the night! Great job guys! You all did fabulous!

Jen's Mom in Surgery

Update:
Jen's mom is out of surgery and doing very well. The operation was successful and she is awake and doing fine. She should be home in a couple of days. Thanks to everyone for your prayers and calls. And thanks to God for watching over her.

Jen's mom went in for her surgery a little after 11AM today. It is supposed to be a 2 to 4 hour procedure. The doctors said the there's a 90% chance that everything will be fine and she'll be able to go home in a couple of days. But, as with any major surgery, there is always the chance of complications. Hold on, I'm getting a phone call from Jen. Ok, I'm back. The surgery is going very well so far. Praise the Lord! Still a little bit to go, but so far things are looking good. Thanks for all your prayers. I'll keep posting updates as they come in.

The Testimony of Tony

Several months ago I posted about Indianapolis Colts' head coach Tony Dungy, and his public Christian testimony in the wake of his son's unexpected suicide. This is an article that appeared on ESPN.com today. It's awesome to see a man so respected in the profession of professional sports have such a strong testimony for Christ and not be ashamed to talk about it. Very good article.

Lincoln Carter update.

I received this email from Heather last night.

Lincoln will be having surgery tomorrow (today) morning at 7:00am. I don't think Josh will have time to write an update, so this is all I can give you. It is a open heart surgery called the Norwood procedure. It actually is a common procedure lately, but the longest living survivor from it is seven so it is fairly new. It will take about two hours....I'll try to keep you updated.

Prayer Request

Sarah had a sonogram last friday and one of the things that was pointed out was our baby has a two vessel umbilical cord rather than a three vessel umbilical cord. The tech said that it was probably nothing to worry about since the sonogram looked good but that if the Dr. wanted to do more tests they would let us know. Well, Sarah got a call from her Doc yesterday saying that they want her to go down to UCSF to have a Level 2 sonogram and an Echo-cardiogram done on the baby. If all goes as planned we will head down to UCSF on monday the 19th to have this done. It seems that this is just to be sure there are no complications from the two vessel cord so we don't think that there is anything to worry about but we would covet your prayers over the next few days as we wait to have the tests done and then wait to hear the results.

Prayer Request for Jen's Mom

Update:

Jen's mom went down to Stanford this evening. They still aren't exactly when her surgery will be, but either Firday or Saturday. Jen is probably going down there with here dad tomorrow. They had a hard time finding a vein for the IV last night, so she's tired of being poked at and sitting around, but she's doing very well. She is a very strong lady. She once was admitted to the ICU and walked in under her own power. The doctors had never seen this before. This was many years ago, when she first had heart problems. Please continue to pray that the procedure will go without complication.

Jen's mom went to the emergency room tonight. She was scheduled to have surgery later this month for some pacemaker matinence, but there were some issues the last few days and they are moving the surgery up to tomorrow. She is as Kaiser tonight and I believe will be heading down to Standford tomorrow. She's doing fine now, but just pray that everything works out ok. Thanks.

Andy

Update on Lincoln Carter

I got this email from Heather this morning:

To all Friends and Family

Lincoln is here! At 6:21 PM Lincoln entered the world kicking and screaming! He was 5 lbs 9 oz and we are still waiting for the length....but he has his daddy's legs! Everything that could go perfect in delivery did! We could not have asked for a better delivery! Kristen did great and is now resting in the Cardiac ICU for close evaluation for at least 24 hrs. She did get to hold him for a few brief seconds before they took him to the Neonatal ICU. This will be tough for Kristen since they will be separated for a day or two (she has only seen pictures of him since delivery). Lincoln is stable and is being evaluated by the cardiologist and heart surgeons throughout the night as they decide what steps to take.

For those who know or know a little bit of medical jargon...this is for you. Lincoln's blood pressure is a little shallow but his heart rate it 150 bpm (approx) and in a normal sinus rhythm. The did have to intabate him because he needed some assistance breathing and to keep his oxygen saturation levels up. His APGAR is 8. He has a good temp and his color is great!

OK....getting back....most likely Lincoln will need surgery within a couple of days but it all depends on him and what they find on his Echo. He might just be stable enough for them to hold off for a week or two...but we just don't know. The next 48 hrs are crucial for Lincoln and his stability...so please be praying hard! We will update you tomorrow with more news....but for now we gotta get some sleep! Thank you and we love you all....GOD IS GOOD!!!

Prayer requests

Since there are a number of you with "other than blogger" template experience, I'll throw this out. If anyone runs across a blog template that would support a third column that we could use for prayer requests/answers it think that would be nice to add to the blog. If anyone is uncomfortable with having those on this blog, please also let me know.

Lincoln Carter

You may have noticed the link to a blog for Lincoln Carter on the sidebar (thanks to whoever put that up). Obviously, clicking on the link will give you the details, but in short that is the name of the baby due to Josh and Kristen Carter on June 11th. Kristen was formerly a York and attended SRBC for many years. She and Christine are friends going way back and I'm very good friends with her sister Heather. The baby is going to be born with a congenital heart defect and may need surgery immediately after being born. Josh and Kristen's first child Elijah had similar problems and the Lord took him home soon after he was born.

Anyway, those are the bare bones facts. For the details check out the blog and I'm sure they would appreciate knowing that we are praying for them.

Garden party at the Dahlingers

This is part one of what I'm sure will be a multi part post. For those that could not attend today you missed out on a great day of food, fun, and games. We played Croquette, Leo won. We played Badminton, Kim and Monique won. and we played some horse-shoes, Matt Bogue won. All in all it was loads of fun and the weather was super cooperative.

I started running out of things to say about the pics so I will leave some of them blank and those that were there can edit in their own descriptions. Enjoy!!

Jen and Emberle enjoy a little conversation during the garden party today.

Ashton and Katrina have some yummy hot-dog for lunch to gain energy for a great day of playing

How is it Christine?

Smile pretty for the camera girls!
